The Funeral Prayer The prayer is said silently, except for the Takbirالله اكبر

The takbir is said before, after and between each of these three parts.

Tasleem, السلام عليكم to the Right and optionally to the left to conclude the prayer.

If you can not say the Arabic in the third part, (Dua al Mayaat) use your own native language.


Some things to keep in mind.

This pamphlet is not all encompassing, yet it is a simple structure of the prayer that will apply to the majority of Adult Janazahs.


There are variations that are specific to gender or age. For example: for a baby, you make Dua for its parents rather than the baby itself.


As for the third portion of the prayer: There is not any specific Dua that is required. I have simply added Dua al- Mayyat, as it is appropriate.


For Example, if you know the following, you may say it for the third portion of the prayer:

رَبَّنَا اتِنَا فِى الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِى

اْلاخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّار

بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمينَ


Rabbana atina fi`d-dunya hasanatan wa fi`l-akhirati hasanatan wa qina adhaba`n-nar birahmatika ya arhama`r-rahimin


Our Lord! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and save us from the torment of the fire We seek Thy blessings, Thou art the most Merciful.


If you know no other prayer, then you may make Dua in your own language, that the deceased as well as the living are granted mercy and their sins forgiven. Allah is the most merciful and compassionate

الله اكبر

ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ
ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ مَـٰلِكِ يَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ
إِيَّاكَ نَعۡبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسۡتَعِينُ
ٱهۡدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٲطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ
صِرَٲطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ غَيۡرِ ٱلۡمَغۡضُوبِ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّين
الله اكبر


اللهم صلى على محمد وعلى آل محمد كما صليت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم

إنك حميد مجيد اللهم بارك على محمد وعلى آل محمد كما باركت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم فى العالمين إنك حميد مجيد

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا

وَصَغِيرِنَا وَكَبِيرِنَا وَذَكَرِنَا وَأُنْثَانَا

اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ أَحْيَيْته مِنَّا فَأَحْيِهِ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ

وَمَنْ تَوَفَّيْته مِنَّا فَتَوَفَّهُ عَلَى الْإِيمَانِ

Transliteration Allahu Akbar

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil alamin Arrahmanirrahim. Maliki yawmiddin, Iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nastain.Ihdinassıra-dal mustaqim.Sıradalladhîna an'amta alayhim, ghayril maghdhubi alayhim waladhdhallin

Allahumma salliala Muhammad, waala 'Ali Muhammad, kama sallaytaala ‘Ibrahim, wa ala 'Ali ‘Ibrahim. ‘Innaka Hamidum Majid. Allahumma barikala Muhammad, wa ala 'Ali Muhammad, kama barakta ala ‘Ibrahim, wa ala 'Ali ‘Ibrahim. ‘Innaka Hamidum Majid

Allahumma`ghfirli-hayyina wa mayyitina wa shahidina wa ghaibina wa dhakarina wa unthana wa saghirina wa kabirina... Allahumma, man ahyaytahu minnafa-ahyihi ala`l-islam wa man tawaffaytahu minna fa-tawaffahu ala`l-iman ve khussa hadha` l-mayyita bir-rawhi wa`r-rahati wa`l-maghfirati ve`r-ridwan... Allahumma in kana muhsinan fa-zid fi ihsanihi wa in kana musian fa-tajawaz anhu wa laqqihi`l-amna wa` l-bushra wa`l-karamata wa`z-zulfa bi-rahmatika ya arhama`r-rahimin

English Translation God is Great

In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful. Praise be to God, the Lord of the Universe, theCompassionate, the Merciful, Sovereign of the Day of Judgment! You alone we worship, and to You alone we turn for help. Guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom You have favored, not of those who have incurred Your wrath, nor o those who have gone astray.

God is Great

Allah, we ask You to raise the rank of Muhammad, and have mercy upon the Al (wives, Muslim kin, and pious Muslim followers) of Muhammad, as You raised the rank of Ibrahim, and the Al of Ibrahim. Verily, You are the One Who deserves to be praised and thanked, and the One Who is glorified. 0 Allah, we ask You to bless Muhammad, and the Al of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim, and the Al of Ibrahim. Verily, You are the One Who deserves to be praised and thanked, and the One Who is glorified.

God is Great

Allah, grant forgiveness to our living and to our dead, and to those who are present and to those who are absent, and to our young and our old folk, and to our males andfemales. O Allah! whomsoever you grant to live, from among us, help him to live in Islam, and whom of us you cause to die, help him to die in faith. Grant especially this dead person your ease, rest, forgiveness and consent Allah, if he acted well, then increase for him his good action, and if he acted wrongly, then overlook his wrong actions. Grant him security, glad tidings, generosity and closeness to you. We seek Thy blessings, Thou art the most Merciful
